If SSL is pending or not issuing, the most common cause is DNS. Free SSL systems such as AutoSSL need to verify that the domain points to the correct hosting server before a certificate can be issued.

- The domain does not point to the hosting server.
- DNS propagation is still in progress.
- Cloudflare proxying is interfering with validation.
- The domain is redirected before validation can complete.
- CAA records restrict certificate authorities.
- The website is suspended or unreachable.
What to check
- Confirm the domain A record points to the correct server IP.
- Check www and non-www versions.
- Check DNS propagation.
- Temporarily set Cloudflare records to DNS only if instructed.
- Check whether AutoSSL has run recently.
Important note
SSL cannot reliably issue for a domain that does not resolve to the correct server. DNS must be fixed first.
