CSF, or ConfigServer Security & Firewall, is a commonly used firewall management tool on cPanel servers. It helps control traffic, block suspicious IPs, manage port access and improve server security.
What CSF does
- Controls inbound and outbound ports.
- Blocks suspicious or abusive IP addresses.
- Works with login failure detection.
- Allows temporary and permanent IP blocks.
- Helps restrict unnecessary services.
Common support scenario
A customer may be blocked by the firewall after repeated failed logins to cPanel, email, FTP or SSH. This can make it look like the website or server is down only for that user.
Security note
Firewall rules should be handled carefully. Opening unnecessary ports or whitelisting untrusted IPs can weaken the server.
Best practice
Use firewall blocks as part of a wider security approach that includes strong passwords, updated software, malware scanning and account isolation.
