Typical permissions
- Folders are commonly set to 755.
- Files are commonly set to 644.
- Configuration files may need stricter permissions.
Problems caused by permissions
- 403 Forbidden errors.
- WordPress cannot upload media.
- Plugins cannot update.

Important warning
Avoid setting files or folders to 777 unless there is a very specific reason and you understand the risk. World-writable permissions can allow unauthorised modification and are often abused by malware.
